About The Book

Published in 1918 and specifically aimed by the great historian who wrote it at British soldiers of the Great War once again fighting in the same cockpit of Flanders and northern France that he describes this is J. W. Fortescue's classic account of William III's and the Duke of Marlborough's campaigns in the wars to prevent French expansion under Louis XIV. The great battles of Ramillies Oudenarde and Malplaquet are described in full along with other sieges and actions in the area - notably the French victory at Fontenoy. Extracted from the author's massive 'History of the British Army' this is a fine example of the master military historian's work.
