British Military Chaplaincy and Religion in South Africa 1899-1902

A great deal has been written about chaplains who served in the Great War but sparse evidence has been found addressing the subject for the South African War of 1899-1902. Using original material this book adds a new dimension to the history of British military chaplaincy. It explores the role and work of the British military chaplain highlighting their experiences. It places them in the context of British religious history and the history of the Royal Army Chaplains' Department.
