Buddhism and Thirukkural

The essence of Buddha’s teachings is Liberty Equality Brotherhood Social Justice and Elimination of Poverty and hunger. He insists on Education for all to improve knowledge and wisdom. His advice was to enhance wealth by ethical means and share it with the have not’s. Love all living beings keep away from evil doings and live a social life with others peacefully and happily following moral principles. Realise the impermanency of the world and that there is no Athma permanently to move from one life to another. Constant change is the natural order of everything so avoid greediness and not cause suffering in others life. Follow the middle path avoiding extreme indulgence in worldly things and extreme self-suffering because of false beliefs and superstitions. These values concepts and philosophies are revolutionary and an attempt to establish a just social order of his time which is contrary to the contemporary philosophers of his time. But the ancient Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar’s poetry preserved the ancient Tamils “ways of life” based on the original teachings of Buddha which is called ancient Tamil Buddhism.
