Buddhist Psalms

S. Yamabe was a Japanese scholar and translator who played a significant role in making Buddhist teachings and texts accessible to a Western audience. Lily Adams Beck also known as Elizabeth Louisa Moresby was an English author who had a deep interest in Eastern spirituality and literature. Together they worked on translating and compiling Buddhist Psalms which contains a selection of Buddhist verses and prayers from various traditions. The term Buddhist Psalms is not meant to equate these verses with the Psalms found in the Judeo-Christian tradition but rather it reflects a literary and poetic style that is akin to the Psalms in some respects. These verses and prayers often express devotion meditation and contemplation on Buddhist principles as well as gratitude compassion and aspiration for spiritual growth.
