Hans and Sophie meet fall in love marry and settle into a quiet life with their two small children. But their serenity is soon destroyed by the malestrom of World War II.<p>Hans who finds faith as an adult will have his character severely tested as he becomes a combatant and then a prisoner of war. Sophie'smettle will be tested as she battles loneliness and uncertainty; and then when she and the children become displaced persons.<p>Their journeys will place them in physical danger and spiritual peril as people and events threaten their integrity morality and faith.
