CAD/CAM - A Revolution in Prosthodontics

During the past decade computer-aided design/ manufacturing (CAD/CAM) which are well-known processes in the industrial world have found their way into dentistry. Interest in this designing and manufacturing process occurred because of its potential as an alternative to the lost-wax technique that has been used for many decades for fabricating dental restorations. A number of reports in the literature in recent years detail the CAD/CAM methods that have been used in dentistry. Equally impressive is the number of articles reporting on the clinical success and the improved characteristics of restorations fabricated by these CAD/CAM methods.
