About The Book

Callous in Spring is an intriguing reflection on life perceptions and our fleeting dreams. Spanning a so-far-incomplete life the selected works follow Carey¹s progress of maturation. The beginning poems are stark dealing with ruminations on disillusionment as the title suggests. The middle takes on a lighter feel and some of Carey's humor is allowed to show through though many of the poems like Sailor Bob's Got Room to Spare and It's Close Now still deal with loss and the lessons that come with it. The end pieces such as A Poem for Cinco de Mayo and The Human House are the most galvanizing poems and it's here that the existentialism moves towards the Repressionism that Carey is known for.
