Recurrent miscarriage is defined as 3 or more consecutive pregnancy losses before 20 weeks of gestation. It affects 5% of pregnancies and unfortunately most of the cases are of unknown causes. Inherited thrombophilias have been postulated as an etiology with a large and contradictory literature addressing their link to recurrent spontaneous miscarriage. This manuscript contains a review of this literature and the retrospective case control study done by my colleagues and I on a cohort of the Lebanese populationaiming to find weather or not there is an association of 12 different thrombophilia genes with recurrent pregnancy loss weather this association is mono or multi-genetic and weather there are other factors such as life style habits or environmental factors that could increase or decrease the risk of recurrent pregnancy loss.
