Certification of Plantain processed in Cameroon

About The Book

The characterisation of banana-plantain sector stakeholders identified by the Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (PD_CVA) shows that the processing link is faced with multiple constraints that limit its development as well as the development of processed products. Non-compliance with quality standards and lack of certification are among the major constraints. However given the plethora of opportunities offered by the international market and the excellent potential observed within the sector it is becoming essential to raise awareness among processors of the need to comply with quality and certification standards in order to market their products. The idea of certification aims to bring more credibility to the various products derived from plantain for a better valuation and to constitute a pledge of transparency towards the final consumers. This reflection therefore attempts to contribute to the multiple efforts of the Government to ensure sufficient food security promote agricultural development and consequently the economic growth of Cameroon.
