Characterization of cattle production systems in Nyagatare-Rwanda

Livestock are vital to subsistence and economic development in Rwanda and in Africa at large. Rwanda government acknowledges livestock as an important pillar in achieving food security and key for economic growth poverty reduction. A central theme of this book is that livestock development cannot be viewed as a parallel expansion in all existing systems; priorities must be set and development choices made on basis of the relative importance and potential of each system as also livestock like other of change livestock development is open-ended and dynamic. The aim of this book is to improve the planning based for livestock in Rwanda. The author''s task has been to provide a quantitative assessment detailed information on the status of livestock production systems in Rwanda. The findings have a potential positive contribution towards policy formulation and planning of development interventions in livestock production provide valuable source of information for improving proper planning food production and economic development in Rwanda and sub- Saharan Africa.
