Characterization of Non-Traditional Plant Fibres

Natural fibres obtained from Plant and Animal sources are put to varying uses. There are several advantages associated with natural fibres than synthetic ones as they are renewable biodegradable and carbon neutral. A wide range of plants are under traditional use to produce fibres and many are cultivated commercially. The present study focuses on the characterization of fibres from non-traditional plant sources and their comparison with traditional ones. Fibres from some of the non-traditional plant sources are found to be promising with regard to their physico-chemical properties.
