The entries generally include the name and occupation of the head of the household.</p><p>This study except for the 1785 directory has been divided by the occupations of the residents and then subdivided according to the year. Each chapter except the last one consists of two parts - an introductory essay and a listing of the residents whose occupation is included in the category which is covered by the chapter. If an individual is listed as having two occupations such as printer and stationer he is included in the chapter 'Craftsmen' as a printer and in the chapter 'Mercantile Community' as a stationer. ...
