About The Book

Child of Storm is set in colonial South Africa during the late 19th century. The story revolves around the character of Stephen Somers who is the son of Allan Quatermain Haggards famous adventurer and protagonist of several of his novels. Stephen embarks on a journey to Natal where he becomes involved in political intrigue and conflicts between native African tribes and European settlers. Throughout the novel Stephen encounters dangerous situations battles and clashes with Zulu warriors. He also forms a romantic relationship with a Zulu princess named Mameena. The story combines elements of adventure romance and exploration of the African landscape and cultures. Like many of H. Rider Haggards works Child of Storm showcases his fascination with Africa its history and its people. It provides a glimpse into the colonial era and the clash of cultures during that time. However its important to remember that Haggards portrayal of African characters may reflect the attitudes and perspectives prevalent during the era he wrote in which may not align with contemporary understandings and sensitivities.
