Children of Incarcerated Mothers : Study of District Jails of Aligarh and Etah Uttar Pradesh

An understanding of the impact of custody on the children of prisoners could point to ways to improve the family environment. It possesses the potential to increase the likelihood of more positive outcomes for the children in terms of health education employment and more pro-social life status. This will prevent inter-generational negative outcomes. Children can play a significant role in the reintegration of family members back into the community and thus prevent recidivism. Supporting children is an investment in the future particularly for those children who have the potential to become the next generation of offenders. There is a need to increase the visibility of the difficulties faced by them and to give them a voice. New targeted policies may consider their needs and ways in which they can be supported. This will empower them to support themselves and contribute to the qualitative enhancement of Human Capital.
