China and India: A Comparative Analysis of Approaches to Energy Security

One of the most significant developments of our times has been the rapid economic growth of China. Ever since China began opening up in late 1970s it has experienced an unprecedented growth averaging 9.7 per cent for the past thirty years. The story of Indias growth has been on similar lines if only starting a little late. The average growth rate for India since its economic reforms began in 1991 has been about 6 per cent. The book discusses the evolution of a strategy for China and India to pursue a high growth for pursuing energy security given the dependence of economic growth on energy supplies.
