About The Book

Choucoune is a 19th-century Haitian song composed by Michel Mauléart Monton with lyrics from a poem by Oswald Durand. It was rewritten with English lyrics in the 20th century as Yellow Bird. Exotica musician Arthur Lyman made the song a hit in 1961.The extract of the song presented in this book is from the original song Choucoune which was translated by the publisher to reflect the meaning behind the original song in the spirit of bilingualism. Please note that the English lyrics are different from the 1961 hit Yellow Bird. Please note that one of the verses from the original song was deemed by the publisher inappropriate for children and modified for this publication: Li gen ti tete doubout or she has perky breasts was changed to li toujou rete byen bèl or she always stayed beautiful.
