Christianity is fulfilment of Judaism

In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus declared he came not to destroy the law but to fulfill it emphasizing his connection to the Old Testament where God depicted as harsh and punitive toward disobedience often seemed less merciful than in the New Testament. The Torah or Pentateuch given to Moses contained laws that expanded from the Ten Commandments to 613 Mitzvot leading to rigid rituals that burdened Jewish spiritual life. In contrast the New Testament shifted focus from laws to love valuing human beings above rituals and promoting inclusivity across race and class. Written in Greek it enabled Jesus''s message to reach beyond the Jewish world profoundly shaping civilization. God appears as loving and forgiving reducing commandments to two-love for God and love for one''s neighbor. Christianity thus prioritizes selfless love and compassion over strict observance of law reflecting a transformation from divine judgment to divine mercy. Dr. Sudip K. Mandal M.A. (Double) B.Ed.
