S. C. Watson's Christmas Coventry is intended to evoke thoughts of the Divine and His love for humanity and creation. In many instances the themes include death addiction isolation and winter. While these subjects may seem inherently dark the author attempts to address them in a life-affirming manner. The term Coventry originally stems from the Saxon village of Coventry birthplace of St. George dragon slayer and patron saint of England. A few of the poems allude to dragons camels hawks magi and royalty conveying actual and legendary images from both medieval and early Christian eras. In addition the term sent to Coventry refers to the deliberate ostracism and isolation of another. Certainly the years 2020 and 2021 were periods of relative voluntary and involuntary Coventry.
