About The Book

The Chronicles of Jerahmeel is a medieval Jewish chronicle attributed to Jerahmeel ben Solomon a Jewish scholar and chronicler who lived around the 14th century. The work is a compilation of Jewish history legends and genealogies spanning from biblical times to the medieval period. It is written in Hebrew and is often referred to as Sefer Divrei Yerachmeel in Hebrew. However its important to note that there has been some debate and uncertainty about the true authorship of this work. Some scholars suggest that the actual author might not have been Jerahmeel ben Solomon but rather it might have been compiled by different authors over a period of time. Moses Gaster (1856–1939) was a Romanian-born Jewish scholar rabbi and folklorist. He was well-known for his extensive research on Jewish folklore history and literature. Gaster translated and edited The Chronicles of Jerahmeel into English making this significant Jewish text more accessible to a wider audience. His edition includes not only the translation but also extensive commentary and footnotes that provide context and explanations for the content of the chronicle.
