Chief information officers (CIOs) are the focal points for information management in a variety of global organizations. Effective leadership and management is paramount in executing an organization's global vision and strategic plan. Based on prior research there has been a vast number of studies conducted on leadership styles of CIOs in the corporate world. However and not notwithstanding very little research has been conducted on the leadership styles of of CIOs at military combatant commands. In essence this study will focus on a gap pertaining to transformational transactional and situational leadership styles of CIOs at military combatant commands. Moreover this qualitative phenomenological study was conducted at four highly skilled global and operational military commands located on a U.S. Air Force Base.
