Baby corn (Zea mays L.) is the name given to young unpollinated ears (spikelets) of any type of corn before grain formation. It is a diversified product consisting of immature corn ears harvested before fertilisation. Irrigated baby corn is emerging as an economical alternative for family farming because it has a shorter cycle and offers the advantage of being harvested at the beginning of the reproductive phase a period when there is greater demand for water for this crop. This is because climate instability especially in terms of dry spells and insufficient rainfall in the off-season has been resulting in low yields in the western region of Paraná.
