This work details the various forms of retention in maxillofacial prosthodontics and their evolution till the present day. It was felt that an inclusive and comprehensive classification of the means of retention was lacking hence an attempt to present an original classification along with a thorough review and discussion of the classical retentive aids in maxilofacial prosthodontics. The work also incorporates the most modern and advanced means of retention available today for rehabilitation of defects in the head neck and face region.
