Climatic variability and yam production in Burkina Faso

About The Book

This study presents the effects of climatic variability on yam production and yield in the commune of Léo in southern Burkina Faso. It provides a meticulous analysis of changes in various climatic parameters notably rainfall temperature wind insolation evaporation and relative humidity over the period from 1989 to 2018 as well as yam growers'' perceptions of the variability of these different climatic parameters. At the same time it also analyzes changes in yam production and yields over the same period. The study therefore identifies the direct and indirect effects of the variability of the above-mentioned climatic parameters on yam production and yield and also shows how yam producers have developed adaptation strategies to mitigate the major adverse effects in order to improve yam production and yield but also to ensure the sustainability of its crop threatened with extinction in the face of climatic constraints.
