Clinical Breast Imaging

The reproduction or representation of a breast's form is done for medical examination using breast imaging. There are several techniques of breast imaging such as X-ray ultrasound magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and scintimammography. X-ray techniques particularly mammography allow the early detection of breast cancer while galactography helps to visualize the milk ducts and detect lesions. MRI serves as an alternative to mammography for the detection of cancer. Ultrasound performs the imaging of the breast and may be used either as a diagnostic tool or a screening procedure. For mammograms with suspicious results or for women with post-operative scar tissue dense breast tissue or breast implants scintimammography is used to detect cancer cells in breasts.
