Coherent THz Transition Radiation

This book is intended especially for students andresearchers working with generation interpretationand applications of THz transition radiation. Itconcentrates in much detail on theoretical andexperimental discussions of coherent THz femtosecondtransition radiation from ultrashort electron pulsesand will serve as a guide for experimental design togenerate and characterize such radiation withdetailed interpretations. Experimental results ofnon-destructive diffraction radiation are alsodiscussed in much detail. In one of its applicationscoherent transition radiation is being used forlongitudinal beam diagnostics especially bunchlength measurement with femtosecond pulse resolution.Complete performance analyses and limitations ofbunch length measurements via the autocorrelationtechnique will be presented in this book. The featureof femtosecond THz pulse is exploited in an exampleapplication to material science measuring the complexdielectric constant of materials with discussion ofits experimental setup and results. The possibilityto create stimulated transition radiation will beintroduced with experimental results to demonstrateits feasibility.
