Cohomology Operations and Applications in Homotopy Theory

Cohomology operations are at the center of a major area of activity in algebraic topology. This technique for supplementing and enriching the algebraic structure of the cohomology ring has been instrumental to important progress in general homotopy theory and in specific geometric applications. For both theoretical and practical reasons the formal properties of families of operations have received extensive analysis.<br>This text focuses on the single most important sort of operations the Steenrod squares.
