Common Sense written by Thomas Paine was a pamphlet that bravely encouraged people to question the moral and political motives of Great Britain during their rule over the Thirteen Colonies. It motivated people to fight for equal rights and largely contributed to the American Revolution. Originally published anonymously in 1776 it was widely circulated and is believed to have been read aloud at public meeting places. Intellectual thought was stirred among the masses who were unquestioning about the BrIt'sh ways and a strong case was made for an independent America.
