Communicating Well

<p><em>Communicating Well: A Fundamental Toolkit</em> offers a full conceptual framework to help students become skilled communicators in relationships groups as public speakers and as media users.<br /><br />Conceived and authored by a diverse team of veteran communication professors <em>Communicating Well </em>provides students a concise yet thought-provoking set of tools and tips for realizing their potential as communicators across settings.<br /><br />After introducing readers to the communication process the book addresses how perceptions of self and others impact communication. Students are provided important tools for verbal and nonverbal communication including ways to truly listen and emerge better prepared for interviews relationships working in groups public speaking and skillfully using media. Additionally this edition features new chapters on intercultural communication and mediated communication. The book features updated concepts of culture and social capital that are particularly relevant in today’s global world. <br /><br /><em>Communicating Well </em>is written for basic communication courses at the introductory college level. It can also be used for classes in psychology sociology and education or any course that emphasizes the relational social and professional significance of communicating well.</p><p><strong>Robert MacDougall</strong> authorship team leader has been teaching communication for 20 years. He is professor of communication at Curry College and coordinator of the video game studies concentration.</p><p><strong>Anjana Mudambi</strong> has been teaching communication for more than 10 years including courses in intercultural communication cultural studies conflict management and research methods. She is currently an assistant professor of communication at Curry College.</p><p><strong>Brecken Chinn</strong> teaches communication and writes extensively on the topic for professional publications. A multiple award winner for Excellence in Programming from the Voice of America she was also named an Exceptional Women award winner by Boston’s radio broadcasting community.</p><p><strong>Dorria L. DiManno</strong> has taught communication for more than 20 years following a career in broadcast television and independent media production. She is professor of communication at Curry College.</p><p><strong>John Barrett</strong> has been teaching at Curry College since 1997. In addition to teaching courses in writing literature and in the theatre concentration he serves as the technical director for all Curry Theatre productions.</p><p><strong>Marcy Holbrook</strong> has taught communication for 15 years and is a senior lecturer in the Curry College Communication Department.</p><p><strong>Ruth Spillberg</strong> is a long-time member of the International Listening Association and has taught courses in effective listening and interviewing to over 1500 college students of all ages and backgrounds.</p><p><strong>Sharon Sinnott</strong> is an accomplished entrepreneur administrator educator and speech consultant. She founded two successful businesses and continues her extensive college teaching and business consulting experience in the Boston area.</p><p><strong>Vicki H. Nelson</strong> is the founder and director of the Curry College Speaking Center and a senior lecturer in the Curry College Communication Department. She has been teaching communication for 35 years.</p>
