Communication Theory Framework: A Prelude to Understanding Practices

Though communication is theoretically considered as old as the human existence its practical side is still fresh as an academic discipline. The general purpose of this paper is to provide a conceptual framework for the study of communication its models types and theories as a prelude to studying its practice. The idea namely is to provide a brief account of the basics of communication theory for undergraduate student at the tertiary level. The approach therefore in this endeavor is to present a knowledgeable understanding of communication as a science to help university students gain a professional and a thoughtful background about both theory and practice of communication. This experiential knowledge will enable them to acquire a useful foundation against which they can build the practical knowledge of the skills needed in becoming more competent communicators.
