Community Participation in Municipal Solid Waste Management

1. Poor urban communities should be educated on the need to Pay as You Generate Solid Waste in order to pay for the solid waste collection service for a clean environment. 2. The urban vulnerable communities should be empowered with solid waste recycling technology in for the purpose of reducing solid waste while generating income through sale of recycled products as a poverty reduction strategy 3. Local urban governments should sort solid waste at source to enable poor communities recover items for re-use recycling and compost formation for gardening. This reduces the cost of transporting wastes from the source to official dump sites for final disposal
