The emergence of the architectural styles Dutch Classicism and English Palladianism are of particular interest as both styles in contrast to the art or architectural historical epoch (German-speaking area) of Classicism (1750 - 1840) already emerged at the beginning of the 17th century. To what extent did cultural economic and political backgrounds lead to the emergence of a new architectural style in the United Netherlands and England in the 17th century and what parallels can be drawn between Dutch Classicism and the almost simultaneously emerging English Palladianism? To answer this question we will analyse two building projects the Mauritshuis in The Hague and the Banqueting House in London.
