Some researchers have focused on large-scale acquisitions of land by foreign companies and investment funds in Ethiopia. Many of them attempt to shed light on the scramble for massive land in the Gambella region of Ethiopia and elsewhere by foreign private and sovereign investors. However local and medium‐scale land‐grabs and the competition for access and control over agricultural land among locals and national elites have eluded the radar of these researchers. Hence this research sets an eye on how local‐level land-grabs are framed in terms of historical land claims political institutional cultural/traditional and socio-economic contexts.
