Competitive Adsorption on New Gluten-Based Materials

About The Book

The main objective of this study is to prepare solid and uniform granules based on an iron-bridged organo-inorgano-montmorillonite complex and gluten (G) as an inert binding agent noted (COIMG-Fe) these granules were prepared by granulation. The optimal conditions of granulation are essentially related to the concentration of Gluten in the mixture as well as a compression between two identical wheels adjustable at a rotation speed of 2.5 rpm for 24 seconds. Adsorption tests in batch reactor in simple monosolute and binary multisolute systems carried out at pH 7 and at an initial concentration of 50 mg/L revealed adsorption capacities exceeding 105 mg.g-1 thus showing the affinity of this new generation of granules to the studied adsorbates. In multisolute systems a clear increase in adsorption capacity was observed and reached capacities of the order of 800 mg.g-1.
