Along with the crowds enjoying fun in the sun however will always be a small element of those intent on ruining the good times through criminal and anti-social behavior. Accordingly a strong police presence is imperative to allow people to enjoy the events and attractions of Coney Island safely. The New York City Police Department does a fantastic job policing Coney Island but the island has been a major attraction drawing many thousands of people since the middle of the 19th century. Who kept the people safe before the NYPD?</p>
