Tumours of the oral cavity are neoformations that develop at the expense of the tissues that make up the stomodaeum. They may develop during life and may be linked to a risk factor or they may develop during intrauterine life and be related to an embryonic remnant or genetic lesion or in utero exposure to certain inducing agents. In addition to the literature on the embryology of the face malformations and congenital orofacial tumours diagnosed antenatally we report two illustrative clinical cases: one with fibrous dysplasia associated with a mandibular cleft a velo-palatal cleft and a bifid tongue and the other with a teratoma of the tongue.
