This book provides an overview of the state of social psychological research on social dilemmas or situations in which the interests of the collective and its individual members clash. A wide variety of methodological and theoretical approaches are organized around four core issues: individual differences in preferences for outcomes promoting individual or collective well being; dynamic processes in large-scale dilemmas; special problems emerging in inter-group conflicts; and the effect of uncertainty on behavior in social dilemmas.
