This study examined the content and structure of the general Dip. Ed. and B.Ed. teacher education programmes (Teacher Education TEE; Educational Management EME; and Guidance and Counselling GCE) and compared them with the content and structure of the “ideal” programmes outlined by experts for each of the roles of teaching administration and counselling with the view of finding out if the programmes adequately prepare the students to play the roles of teaching school administration and guiding and counselling students. The study covered one diploma college in Kenya (KSTC) one Nigerian Certificate of Education college in Ibadan (OYCE Wesley Campus) one university college in Kenya (KUC) and the Institute of Education in University of Ibadan (UI). The main findings of the study revealed that the programmes adequately prepare students as teachers but they do not adequately prepare them as school administrators and guidance counsellors. These findings suggest that the programmes need to be enriched in administration and guidance and counselling content.
