This book focused on analysing the continuity of the French language programme in the fourth cycle of primary school and the post-primary language section. After conducting a survey it was noted that there is no continuity between the French language programme in primary school and the post-primary programme. ECOFO texts are fictionalised texts based on everyday life and are non-literary while post-primary language section texts are literary. The results of our study showed that learners and teachers at the schools visited stated that learners have difficulty understanding French (texts) and reading from primary school onwards and that this difficulty worsens at post-primary level when they tackle the literary texts provided. Literature is a strong preparatory element that needs to be taught from primary school onwards especially storytelling in order to develop it at post-primary level. It would therefore be ideal to revise the curriculum to include the concepts of literature and teach it to young learners so that they can benefit from the linguistic and cultural knowledge that would help them to master French.
