Contribution of managed hydrosystems to agro-pastoral activities

About The Book

In Côte d'Ivoire hydrosystem development projects were set up. Over a ten-year period these programs aimed to create 50000 new hectares under irrigation for all food crops combined. Various technologies adapted to local conditions were used including run-of-river intake drilling small hill dams and pumping stations. In fact the hydrosystem is a complex system whose functioning integrates all the compartments of the basin spatial units (minor and major beds lowlands terraces slopes or plateaus) interconnected by a hydrographic network or by underground flow and whose structure and evolution are intimately linked to past and present river dynamics. This is the basin's receiving system. It is subject to both historical evolution and socio-economic dynamics.
