CONTRIBUTION TO THE DIAGNOSIS OF BRUCELLOSIS IN PREGNANT WOMEN

About The Book

Brucellosis is an infectious disease common to humans and certain animals caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella. The presence of this disease in pregnant women can have several consequences on the pregnancy as well as the health of the child hence the interest of this study whose objective was to contribute to a better control of brucellosis through the screening of the disease in pregnant women in the commune V district of Bamako. Our study involved 368 samples of pregnant women at the Laboratory of Applied Molecular Biology from May to December 2019. We used the Rose Bengal method for serological testing. The results of our study 9.0% for PCR and 6.0% for serology demonstrate that the diagnosis of brucellosis should be included in the prenatal check-up and that molecular techniques could be used in a complementary way to serology for a better control of this disease.
