The main purpose of safety is to eliminate unacceptable risks that could cause physical injury harm to human health or even death damage the environment and cause costly production losses. This also involves methodologies to be followed and technical resources to be deployed. To this end an international standard has been established: IEC 61508. This is a guidance standard which means that it leaves it up to the user to carry out their own risk analysis and suggests ways of reducing risk. It focuses more specifically on safety systems whether electrical mechanical or hydraulic. The IEC 61511 standard describes different methods for determining the safety integrity level (SIL) of an instrumented safety function. This study is being carried out at the Elmalabiod Tébessa cement plant. The aim is to control industrial risk in order to assess the SIL level and improve the operation and performance of its facilities as well as their safety.
