The clash of religions in Jerusalem drove <em>Damascus Gate</em>. Traditional town-gown tensions amid twenty-first-century culture wars propelled <em>Death of the Black-Haired Girl</em>.<br /><br />Stone's reputation rests on his mastery of the craft of fiction.
