Countertransference and Older Clients

This is an anthology for practitioners in the fields of ageing health care disability and dying. The theme of the book is that helping professionals need to confront and examine their own denial fear of growing old and perhaps helpless fear of dying and the unknown anger related to death and loss need for control and professional omnipotence and the need to be needed.Examination of the feelings experienced by a therapist or other carer toward the client is regarded as an important therapeutic tool and the basis for empathy and deeper understanding of both the older client''s and the helper''s own processes. Many case studies are woven throughout the book to illustrate how practitioners can use their own feelings and behaviour to work with clients more effectively.
