Ten-year-old Will McKenzie living on a farm in Alberta Canada moves north to a Native reservation because a pulp mill bought out his parents' farm. When he arrives in Coyote Lake Will witnesses a close family friend dump his daughter in the ditch in the middle of the night.

Through both Will and Minos's eyes two first person overlapping accounts create a narrative pieced together that recounts Will's life. We see him struggle to overcome issues of identity love and understanding. Will McKenzie is not a character you will easily forget.

And Coyote Lake is a place where outsiders are suspect and where Will continually finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
