Craniofacial Morphology and its relation to the Maxillary Arch

A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out to determine the relationship between the cranial and facial index and the shape and width of the upper dental arch. The results were processed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) data package to relate the established variables finding 55.4% of the subjects studied had brachycephalic skulls 42.1% had mesoprosopic faces 63.3% had ovoid arch forms and finally 74.2% had wide arches for the male sex and 41.7% had narrow arches for the female sex with a degree of statistical significance of ? = 0.05 for these results. The values found were compared with studies carried out in other regions of South America Europe Asia and Africa since there are no studies of this type in our country. The results of some of these studies coincided and others differed from those obtained from the sample of students from Austro Ecuador.
