Creation of a pharmaceutical industry in Madagascar

About The Book

Our study aims to identify the factors affecting the viability and competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry in Madagascar and explore the possibilities for developing a local pharmaceutical industry. The national context shows a strong dependence on drug imports. The study examines structural challenges including inadequate legislation and high production costs which hinder the sector's viability. A methodology based on surveys and quantitative and qualitative analyses was used to test two main hypotheses: the impact of legislation on the sector's viability and the impact of production costs on competitiveness. The results highlight the importance of legislative reforms and the need to control energy labour and raw material supply costs. This project is part of a public health and economic development approach responding to the needs of the Malagasy population.
