Media as a mass communication tool embrace different texture of texts and is meant to be socially responsible by upholding professional ethics of journalism. However media and media discourse have received critiques from different academic disciplines regarding the role of journalism. Considering this notion through critically analyzing the discourses of selected mediums report on the mass demonstration against ISIS held in Ethiopia; this book presents a detailed descriptioninterpretation and explanation of texts to demystify the situational institutional and societal context of the event. Majorly critical discourse analysis and Halliday’s systemic functional grammar is likely employed to strengthen the analysis from micro to macro level. The findings reveal the language uses of the news reports are explicitly and implicitly in protagonist-antagonist setting. The role of journalism is exceptional but belongs to the ideological patterns of respective media institutions that implicate language ideology and institutional settings are mutually determined.
