美国的族裔状态比百衲衣复杂得多， 我认为， 用混纺布比用百衲衣更为贴切。因为黑人都有白人的血统， 白人也有黑人的血统， 至于西语裔， 更是多重混血的人种。但是在混血过程完成之前， 现代人类学所显示的种族相异三特性模式〔three─way pattern of race differences〕还是具有关键作用。而作为黑人作者， 这本简史未能运用最新的种族相异三特性模式的研究数据来说明美国的种族状态， 这使它缺乏了一个中立的学术基础。Synopsis: The ethnic status in the United States is much more complicated than patina clothing. I think it is more appropriate to use blend cloth than patina clothing. Because black people have white blood white people also have black blood and as for Hispanics it is even more mixed race. But the three-way pattern of race differences shown by modern anthropology still plays a key role until the process of mixing is complete. And as a black author this brief history lacks a neutral academic foundation by failing to use the latest research data on the three-way pattern of race differences to account for the state of race in the United States.
