The present book includes three papers presented at international meetings between (2011- 2013) featuring the 19th century Tua railway in the Douro wine region of Portugal as part of the international FOZTUA Project as well as a fourth paper on the historical and cultural heritage of the Tua line. This Project is a joint interdisciplinary study carried out by the MIT in U.S. under the MIT Portugal Program to promote Tua railway and Tua valley research and help preserve the heritage of the region. Based on historical sources temporalities and analytical perspectives different but complementary here are approached various forms of technological network dissemination and their respective implications in a transdisciplinary way. The main focus is to explore and advance lines of research suggested by comprehensive notions of society and culture in accord with “the new social and historical studies” (I. Wallerstein 2002) and “the social studies of science and technology” (B. Latour 2005).
