The Brutal Nature Of These Encounters Are Not Outside The Context Of The Time Period And Setting Portrayed In The Story But May Not Be Appropriate For Younger Children. There Are Also Depictions Of Intimacy That Are Geared Toward A More Mature Readership. Nothing Is Done Gratuitously In The Authors Opinion However There Is A Certain Level Of Intensity At Times That May Be Too Much For Younger Readers. Del’S Writing Expresses A Willingness To Take The Reader Beyond The Customary Restraints Of Conventional “Old West” Storytelling.
